LinkedIn Alignment

Recommendations for bringing your LinkedIn profile in line with the message and direction of your résumé.

My approach

I do not believe every résumé needs to sound "more professional." It needs to sound specific. I focus on what you actually did, what changed because of your work, and why it matters for the job you want next.

Anonymized sample

Real client example: Operations → Accounting

This client had a strong operations background, but the résumé needed to make the accounting connection obvious. The goal was not to invent accounting experience — it was to pull forward the financial, reconciliation, purchasing, recordkeeping, and vendor work that was already there.

Challenge

The experience spanned trade compliance, inventory, purchasing, retail, and operations. On paper, that can look scattered when the target is accounting.

Strategy

Build one clear story around accounting operations: invoice review, reconciliation, purchase orders, budget tracking, vendor coordination, transaction accuracy, and discrepancy resolution.

What stayed real

No inflated job titles. No invented accounting duties. The résumé only used responsibilities and achievements supported by the client's actual work history.

What changed

The summary, core skills, and bullets were reorganized so the most relevant accounting-adjacent work appears first and the transferable value is easier to see.

Target positioning

Accounting Operations | Accounts Payable | Financial Reconciliation

That one line immediately tells the reader where the résumé is going before they even reach the experience section.

About Nicole

I help job seekers turn real experience into résumés that still sound like them.

As the founder of Purpose & Glow Career Solutions, I work with people who know they have the experience but aren't sure how to present it. My goal is always the same: a résumé that feels professional, clear, and genuinely like the person behind it.

Outside of Purpose & Glow, I'm a Revenue Cycle Insurance Specialist with more than 10 years of healthcare experience — reimbursement resolution, complex claims, medical billing, accounts receivable, payer requirements, documentation, and process improvement. That background taught me how to take complicated work and make it easy to understand, which is exactly what a strong résumé needs.

Whether I'm working through a healthcare issue or helping someone finally feel good about their résumé, I genuinely enjoy solving problems and helping people move forward.

Professional Summary

Accounting Operations Candidate

Detail-oriented operations professional transitioning into accounting with experience supporting invoice reconciliation, purchasing, financial recordkeeping, budget tracking, vendor coordination, and discrepancy resolution. Skilled in reviewing invoices and operational records for accuracy, maintaining financial and inventory data, researching variances, and supporting purchase order and requisition processes. Hands-on experience includes Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and high-volume transaction environments.

Core Competencies & Technology

  • Accounts Payable Support

Why this works: the summary does not just say "detail-oriented" and stop there. It immediately backs that up with the accounting-related work, systems, and transaction responsibilities the client can actually speak to in an interview.

Selected Experience Bullets

Trade Compliance Specialist | Consumer Goods Company

  • Support purchasing functions through purchase orders, requisitions, vendor communication, cost review, and resolution of invoice and inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintain detailed records across Sage Intacct and ERP systems while ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor inventory movement and associated records across 300+ SKUs to help maintain accurate financial and operational data.

  • Coordinated purchasing, supplies, order processing, and operational requirements while monitoring costs and resource needs.

What changed: instead of burying the financial work inside general operations bullets, the résumé brings invoice review, reconciliation, purchasing, budgets, costs, and financial systems to the front.

Before & after

What makes a stronger résumé

The difference is usually in the details.

Too generic

“Responsible for inventory and vendor communication.”

More useful

“Resolved invoice and inventory discrepancies by coordinating with vendors, transportation providers, and internal partners.”

Too broad

“Managed business operations.”

More useful

“Tracked operating costs and budgets, maintained transaction records, and prepared performance information to support management decisions.”

Missing the result

“Improved receiving workflow.”

More useful

“Improved receiving and stocking workflows by 33% while strengthening inventory controls that reduced stockouts and excess inventory by 26%.”

The goal: a recruiter should not have to guess what you did, why it mattered, or how your experience connects to the job.
